Why Selous Game Reserve?

Is the largest game reserve in the world. It is even bigger than Rwanda and Burundi combined. Moreover Selous is a special corridor for animal movements connecting Selous Game Reserve with the Niassa Game Reserve in Mozambique. Its savannah attracts the African wild dog, Selous zebras, Nyasaland wildebeest, Cape buffalo, Lichtenstein hartebeest, huge herds of elephants, and large groups hippos and crocodiles.

In 1982, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its remarkable biodiversity and extensive, pristine natural environments, including the expansive grasslands and the unique miombo woodlands.

To protect the delicate balance of the numerous species and ecosystems thriving within the park, human settlement is strictly prohibited. Every individual who enters or leaves the park is meticulously recorded and monitored by the Wildlife Division of the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. This ensures the preservation of this vital natural habitat.
